Jack Taylor
“Jack Taylor” is an Irish TV drama adapted from Ken Bruen’s novels. Set in Galway, it features Iain Glen as the titular character, Jack Taylor, a former Garda Síochána officer who becomes a “finder” after leaving the force. Taylor is adept at uncovering clues overlooked by others and knows his hometown’s streets intimately.
The series premiered on Ireland’s TV3 on August 2, 2010, and later aired on Belgium’s Canvas with Dutch subtitles. It made its UK debut on Channel 5 on February 21, 2013, and is also available on DVD. Critics have given it mixed reviews. Bernice Harrison from The Irish Times criticized Glen’s voiceovers, likening them to a film noir detective, while David Stephenson from the Daily Express praised the gripping start of the first episode. A real-life private investigator interviewed by Laura Barnett of The Guardian found the show entertaining but noted it didn’t always accurately depict his profession.
